The reactive cube was fabricated for the artist Graham Plumb in 2018. It consists of an acrylic cube filled with murky water above a projection that can be affected by a motion control sensor. The light from the projection extrudes through the liquid, creating a three-dimensional volumetric display.
Fabrication for this sculpture included detailed CAD models to place the projector, computer and mirrors in exactly the correct relative locations under the cube. The outer structure is water-jet cut aluminum. The entire assembly is held together by a hidden extruded aluminum structure beneath the cube.
